Reporting to the Director of Retail Operations, the Retail Assistant Manager plays a key role in translating strategic vision into actionable retail plans that drive targeted growth in sales and profitability. This role supports the execution of departmental strategies and ensures that buying decisions align with financial goals and deliver strong profit margins.
As a key member of our front-line team, the Retail Assistant Manager plays a vital role in empowering staff to deliver exceptional guest service. With strong product knowledge and a commitment to maintaining a welcoming, well-presented retail environment at both the Basecamp and Summit stores, you will help create memorable experiences for every visitor. Working collaboratively with a dynamic and enthusiastic sales team, you will contribute to achieving daily sales goals while fostering a positive and enjoyable atmosphere for guests and staff alike.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure our team consistently delivers exceptional customer experiences through friendly interactions, open-ended questions, sincere compliments, and memorable farewells.
Support the retail budget by monitoring daily schedules and aligning staffing levels with business needs and financial targets.
Exercise decision-making authority in the absence of the Director of Retail Operations, ensuring continuity of leadership and operational efficiency.
Maintain a visible and active presence in both Basecamp and Summit Stores, setting the standard for customer service and sales excellence.
Ensure all retail spaces are clean, well-merchandised, and visually appealing to optimize sales opportunities.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement by identifying and implementing process enhancements and capital investment opportunities.
Design and execute sales and promotional programs tailored to gondola activities and seasonal customer trends.
Plan and coordinate special promotions, in-store displays, and events to drive engagement and revenue.
Mentor and coach team members—including Lead Hands and Supervisors—through regular feedback, goal setting, and performance support.
Inspire and engage staff by leading with integrity, providing growth opportunities, and maintaining a positive team environment.
Guide team members in effectively presenting product features, benefits, and usage to enhance customer understanding and satisfaction.
Collaborate with the Director of Retail Operations to shape retail assortment, procurement strategies, and sales initiatives.
Develop innovative and cost-effective methods for stock generation and replenishment.
Oversee inventory management and stock control processes to ensure optimal stock levels, minimize shrinkage, and support sales targets.
Monitor inventory weekly to ensure alignment with bottom-line sales budgets and monthly performance goals.
Embody our value “safety starts with us’ and comply with health and safety regulations, participate in Sea to Sky Gondola’s health and safety program, and report incidents, injuries and unsafe conditions in a timely manner
Represent the Retail function throughout the gondola, leveraging events and activities to identify and capitalize on retail sales opportunities.
Support sustainability initiatives through responsible waste and energy practices, packaging reduction, and education on eco-friendly products.
Build and maintain strong relationships with guests, team members, and management to promote collaboration and service excellence.

Required Skills and Experience:
Proven ability to train and lead teams, with 5–7 years of experience managing and mentoring staff in a retail or guest service environment
Genuine enthusiasm for delivering outstanding guest experiences with energy and professionalism
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve issues efficiently and effectively
Demonstrated leadership and team-building capabilities, with excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset
Experience managing a diverse team and navigating complex interpersonal dynamics
Proficiency in computer applications including MS Office and point-of-sale systems; experience with RTP or similar POS software is an asset
Exceptional multitasking and delegation skills, with the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
In-depth knowledge of Squamish and the surrounding Sea to Sky Gondola area are an asset
Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
Diploma or a degree in business management, tourism, or a related field is considered an asset
Legally authorized to work in Canada
