Annual Salary: $80,400 (+ incentive)
Reports to: Director of Operations, Maintenance & Special Projects

The Operations Manager is a full-time, year-round position with a significant amount of responsibility. This position manages several Supervisors of the following departments: Lift Operations, Summit Guides, and Mountain Crew. This role will carry out management responsibilities in accordance with established policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work, performance management, and addressing guest complaints and resolving problems.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Key areas will be to serve as a strong leader for operations personnel. You are responsible for month-to-month planning for the team. Your skills at anticipating the daily challenges in a safe and efficient manner for our guests and staff is a key component of the position
In this role, your main duties and responsibilities will be to ensure the safety of our guests and team is met in all areas of daily operations
Have the authority to make critical decisions that affect the operation in the absence of the Director of Operations & Maintenance
Work closely with the Lift Maintenance Manager to ensure collaboration and effective communication between departments
Adhere to all operational and safety procedures, ensuring safe efficient operation of the lift
Operate passenger ropeway for the purpose of transporting guests during public operations
Operate passenger ropeway for the purpose of transporting maintenance personnel during line work
Have a hands-on approach and assist where needed in performing Lift Operations duties (start up of lift, scanning tickets, ensuring the safe operation of the Gondola, managing the parking lot, covering breaks, etc.)
Oversee the Tube Park (seasonal), including staffing, logistics, and maintenance
Ensure that daily records are accurate, updated and organized
Ensure daily operations are performed in such a way as to ensure all safety standards and best practices are being applied
Embody our value “safety starts with us’ and comply with health and safety regulations, participate in Sea to Sky Gondola’s health and safety program, and report incidents, injuries and unsafe conditions in a timely manner.
Answer company information/emergency phone and provide information and initiate response as required and/or in the absence of the Director of Operations & Maintenance during scheduled works hours
Create and maintain all operational signage
Assure that trail maps are up to date and following the latest branding standards
Attend weekly management meetings
You are dedicated to customer service, and strive to assist the guest before the guest asks, and have the ability to provide physical assistance when required
Lead in recruitment, hiring, training and supervision of Lift Hosts, Tube Park Attendants, Summit Guides, Mountain Crew, and any other operations staff, ensuring they are set up to perform their duties successfully
Coach, mentor and provide consistent feedback to team members and assist them with reaching their goals
Responsible for payroll and scheduling of Operations Team Members
Responsible for ordering miscellaneous supplies required in operations (cleaning products etc.)
Maintain the cleanliness around the gondola and on all trails
Support sustainability goals by collaborating on the design and implementation of programs for waste reduction, energy efficiency and environmental education
Assist other departments as needed
Other duties as required
Required Skills and Experience:
Extensive experience in the operation and maintenance of detachable passenger ropeways (preferably Doppelmayr) an asset
Lift 150 or/ and Lift 151 Certificate (or willingness to attain within 3 months)
Proven leadership and team building skills. Strong human relation skills and ability to work and support a team environment
Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide clear, consistent communication to team members and stakeholders in the organization
Detail oriented with the ability to utilize Microsoft Suite to keep records, schedules and documents up to date and organized
Extensive knowledge and experience in all areas of mountain tourism operations
BC Driver’s License (class 4 an asset)
Extensive knowledge of Squamish and area surrounding Sea to Sky Gondola
Able to reason and react with quick, thoughtful judgment, while remaining calm under pressure
Weekend and evening availability
First Aid designation preferred (Basic FA, OFA 3)
Experience with inventory management
Adept user of Microsoft Excel and Word
4x4 driving on alpine mountain roads. ATV experience an asset
Previous experience with systems and administration
Knowledge of radio protocols and use
Legally authorized to work in Canada
Satisfactory Criminal Record Check required.
