Talking Trees Tours Connect To First Nations’ Culture and Wisdom (2017)

10 July, 2017

In the spring of 2017 Sea to Sky Gondola and Talaysay Tours launched daily “Talking Trees” First Nations interpretive tours to guests at the summit of the gondola. First Nations guides from the Squamish and Coast Salish tribes of the North Coast accompany guests through the alpine while they share stories of the natural and historical significance of the alpine forests and ocean surrounding the gondola.

The Sea to Sky Gondola is honoured to be within the unceded traditional territory of the Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations and, through the partnership with Talaysay Tours, to share the rich cultural history of this place with guests from around the world.

“We are extremely excited to share how our people thrived on this land century after century. We will talk about how the gifts of the forest and the ocean were used, in combination, to sustain our people for thousands of years,” says Candace Campo, owner of Talaysay Tours. “Guests will also learn legends of the area that have particular cultural and historical significance to the Squamish and Coast Salish people.”

Talking Trees tours consist of a 1.5 hour interpretive tour and will be offered daily at the Sea to Sky Gondola, departing from the Summit Plaza at noon. The cost is $74 for adults with a gondola ticket included or $35 for passholders.
