Passholder Profile: Jen Segger

19 April, 2017

Passholder Profile is a blog series where we introduce you to our local passholders.

They share their favourite activities, inspiring stories, and why they decided to get an Annual Pass.

Today we sit with Jen Segger, a local endurance coach legend. Along with her own string of competitive running achievements, Jen has coached athletes of all levels for more than a decade. She works with athletes competing in a wide variety of endurance events: ultra running, mountaineering, ironmans, triathlons, mountain biking, road cycling, standup paddle boarding and adventure races. Jen believes in training for a purpose; to be strong and ready to pursue your outdoor passions. Jen is a Race Organizer for Run Squamish, a local not-for-profit running series. One of her races goes up the Sea to Summit trail!

What is the primary reason you bought an annual pass?
I buy the annual pass so that I can access the trails year round, whenever I want, without thinking about it. The terrain surrounding the gondola has become a key part of my training for endurance races and expeditions.

How long have you been a passholder with us?
As soon as the very first annual passes were available when the Gondola first opened, I purchased a pass. I was excited to have unlimited access to a new set of trails and terrain to play in.

What is your favourite time to visit the summit?
I love the early mornings on the gondola trail. In fact, I typically time my vertical ascent workouts to reach the top just in time for when the lift starts running (9:30am).  After I push it hard on the trails, I love grabbing a coffee and then enjoying the ride down with the views over Howe Sound. It is a perfect way to start the day.

What is your favourite activity?
The vertical trails are my personal favourite.  I also frequently bring my 3-year-old son to play in the sandbox, or to enjoy an evening pint of Sky Pilot IPA on the balcony in the warm summer evenings.

What was your best day at the gondola?
The best day at the gondola is what I call the Triple Crown.  I began with running up to Peak #1 on the Chief, then over to Peak #2 before connecting to the Sea to Summit Trail and running up to the top of the Gondola.  I completed my run with a hard effort on Panorama Trail and then grab a coffee for the ride down. I love to have this all done by 9:45am.

How often do you visit?
1-2 times per week in the Summer with more visits in the Spring and Fall.

What is the best part about having an annual pass?
I love having unlimited access to a variety of terrain.  Whether I need a power workout on the vertical trails or a solid mountain run up Sky Pilot, the gondola has made it possible. I am also very excited to be the Race Director for Run Squamish's "Sea to Sky Scramble" in June. This is a great event for people to challenge themselves on the Sea to Summit trail.  The 2018 event will the 3rd annual race and I encourage people to check out www.runsquamish.com for more information!
