New gondola will Chiefly be a boon to Squamish

Jayson Faulkner says he would have been on the front lines if someone tried to build a gondola on the iconic Stawamus Chief near Squamish.

“If they wanted to build a gondola up the Chief, the hiking community would have laid down in front of the bulldozers, including me,” says Faulkner, an outdoorsy Whistler entrepreneur who’s also a municipal.

For Faulkner, fighting the public perception that he and four co-founders wanted to desecrate the hiking hot spot was the major challenge in getting the go-ahead for the $22-million project....
