How Do You Stay Safe on the Trails in Summer Heat?
13 August, 2025
Summer on our trails is beautiful — and brutally hot. Bring water, dress smart, avoid midday heat, and know your limits.
What to Pack?
At least 2 litres of water per person. Dehydration can happen quickly in the heat.
Wide-brim hat and light, breathable clothing to help protect against sunburn and overheating.
When to Hike?
The alpine is especially beautiful at sunrise and in the late afternoon light — and it’s cooler, too. Start early or head out later in the day to avoid peak heat.
How to Stay Safe?
Listen to your body. Headaches, dizziness or nausea are signs to stop and rest.
Rest in shade whenever possible.
Turn back if you feel unwell. The mountain will be here tomorrow.
Prepared hikers share one thing in common: respect for the mountain. Pack smart, pace yourself, and stay hydrated. A safe hike is a great hike — and one you’ll want to do again.
