Hiking, walking, tubing, snowshoeing, sightseeing, skiing, snowboarding and other activities that take place at the Sea to Sky Gondola involve the risk of injury. The information contained in the Safety and Risk Awareness section of this website is to inform you of the risks, dangers and hazards that you may encounter at the Sea to Sky Gondola and help you to stay safe while enjoying these activities. Whether you are a participant in these activities or a parent/ guardian of a minor participant, please take the time to familiarize yourself with the Safety and Risk Awareness information on this website.

EXCLUSION OF LIABILITY – ASSUMPTION OF RISK

All access to Sea to Sky Gondola’s premises and facilities is subject to Sea to Sky Gondola’s Exclusion of Liability and Assumption of Risk Notice, which will affect your legal rights including the right to sue for negligence, breach of contract or breach of the Occupiers’ Liability Act or to claim compensation following an accident.

The use of Sea to Sky Gondola’s premises and facilities and participation in activities at Sea to Sky Gondola’s premises and facilities involves various risks, dangers and hazards. It is a condition of your use of Sea to Sky Gondola’s premises and facilities, and your participation in these activities, that you assume all risk of personal injury, death, property damage or loss resulting from any cause whatsoever, including negligence, breach of contract, or breach of any duty of care on the part of the Sea to Sky Gondola and its employees and representatives.

Your legal responsibility as a user of the Sea to Sky Gondola premises and facilities or participant in activities on the premises is explained in the following notice, which you will see posted at the area.

Participating in any activities on Sea to Sky Gondola premises, involve various risks, dangers and hazards including, but not limited to the following:

BE AWARE OF SLIPS, TRIPS AND FALLS

When visiting the Sea to Sky Gondola, you are likely to encounter uneven ground, unpaved areas, varying terrain and natural or man-made obstacles that may cause you to slip, trip or fall.

Footwear plays an important role in reducing the risk of slips, trips and falls. Your footwear should be appropriate for the season, weather conditions and activity. Many types of footwear do not provide good traction, and extra caution should be used when visiting the Sea to Sky Gondola.

There may be wet, icy, slippery surfaces throughout the premises including on roadways, parking lots, sidewalks, decks, patios, stairs and walkways.

Slips, trips and falls are common and all users should take precautions at all times when moving around the area.

GONDOLA SAFETY

Prior to Loading

  • If you are unfamiliar with gondolas, please ask the Lift Host for instructions
  • Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult (19+)
  • If you require the gondola to be slowed down for loading, please inform the Lift Host

Loading

  • Follow the instructions of the Lift Host
  • Load and unload only at designated areas
  • Pay attention to your step as you load the moving gondola

Riding the Gondola

  • Do not swing or bounce the gondola cabin
  • Keep all belongings inside the cabin
  • If the gondola stops, do not attempt to open the cabin doors
  • No smoking

Preparing to Unload & Unloading

  • Watch your step as you unload the moving cabin
  • Clear the unload area to make room for the guests in the incoming cabin

RELATIVE TRAIL DIFFICULTY

Visitors should be advised that a green circle, blue square, or black diamond trail at the Sea to Sky Gondola is not necessarily the same as a similarly rated trail at another area. The system is a relative system that is only valid at this area. Know your limits and ask our Summit Guides for trail recommendations for you and your group.

SNOW TUBING

Snow Tubing involves many risks, dangers and hazards including, but not limited to:

The use of any sliding device (e.g. toboggans, magic carpets) other than the tubes provided by the Sea to Sky Gondola are strictly prohibited at all times. Personal sliding devices are not allowed anywhere on the premises.

Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult, must be taller than 105 cm (42 inches) and must be able to hold onto both handles on the tube.

MARKING & FLAGGING

Poles, flags, fencing, signage and padding on equipment or objects or other forms of marking devices are used by the Sea to Sky Gondola to inform you of the presence or location of a potential obstacle or hazard. These markers are no guarantee of your safety and will not protect you from injury. Not every obstacle or hazard is marked.

DRONES & UAVs

The use of drones or UAVs (Unmanned Air Vehicles) by guests or members of the public is prohibited on and over Sea to Sky Gondola premises. Commercial drone use is also prohibited unless prior approval has been granted. Please contact for more information.
