Sea to Sky Gondola Incident Update

17 February, 2014

This update is issued to our guests, partners and other community and business stakeholders regarding the gondola incident that occurred on February 4, 2014.

The Sea to Sky Gondola, in conjunction with the British Columbia Safety Authority (BCSA) and the gondola manufacturer, has concluded that a unique weather event was the cause of the incident.

We have implemented operational changes to avoid weather related risks and are implementing other equipment changes to address the specific circumstances of such a weather event to insure an incident of this nature does not repeat itself in the future.  The safety and well being of our guests, employees and contractors is our highest priority.

Based on these changes, the BCSA has now provided permission for the Sea to Sky Gondola to continue to operate for construction of the Summit Lodge.  As such, the project is moving forward on schedule with a planned opening date in May 2014.

We want to thank everyone for the assistance and support we have received over the last two weeks.
